CSEC

Since 2003, the National Commercial Bank through its philanthropic arm - N.C.B. Foundation, has been sponsoring in full the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) examinations for select subjects for qualified Jamaican students in both public and private institutions across the island. To date, the Foundation has awarded J$187,000,000.00 for 113,000 student entries.

The programme works in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MOEYI) subsidy and therefore, helps to ensure that all students have the opportunity to meet the minimum subject requirement for admission into tertiary level institutions or advance in the world of work.

ELIGIBILITY DETAILS

We will extend the subsidy to three subjects namely Principles of Accounts (POA), Principles of Business (POB) and Information Technology (IT) once the criteria below are met:

  • All public and private institutions island wide with a sit rate of 90% or more in the subject area for the prior academic year.
  • All regular students with an average of 70% or higher in the subject area from the qualified schools identified from above.
  • All PATH/Needy* students with an average of 50%*or higher in the subject area for the qualified list of schools or any other accredited secondary-level intuitions.

*50% is the bench mark observed by the MOEYI and we will adopt for this special group of students – PATH, Needy students and Wards of the State.

*Needy students are categorized as those students living in households with an income at or below the minimum wage level. This information will be verified via the primary assistance of the MOEYI and the affiliate schools.
