In response to the humanitarian call for assistance to the people of hurricane-ravaged Haiti, the over 2000 staff members at the National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) has organised the collection of non-perishable food supplies and toiletries. The items will be collected at all of its 32 branch locations and subsidiaries and handed over to the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM). Some staff members will also be making cash donations to the ODPEM/Haiti Hurricane Relief account 212387304 at NCB Oxford Place branch.
“While Jamaica was spared from Hurricane Matthew, Haiti was severely impacted and this is NCB’s way of extending our support to a nation which is in dire need at this time,” said Nadeen Matthews, Chief Executive Officer of the N.C.B. Foundation.
Miss Matthews commended the NCB staff for heeding the call for support. “I want to publicly thank the staff for so readily responding in this organised manner and I am sure it will go a far way in assisting the people of Haiti.” This support by NCB follows closely on the heels of the recent assistance of $1.9 million worth of water and toiletries given to ODPEM in their preparedness efforts for Hurricane Matthew. Additionally, ODPEM will be reallocating some of the unused water donated by NCB to its Haiti relief efforts.
Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti as a Category Four system and was the worst storm to have affected the country in over a decade.
